Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K miniatures: fit, supports and wall thickness

The Saturn 4 Ultra 16K is a resin printer with a 211.68 × 118.37 × 220 mm envelope. The narrow 118.37 mm Y axis is the limiting dimension for many figures, so long weapons and multipart models often need a quarter turn or a split. Supports, drainage and wall thickness matter more than raw build volume.

Typical size

Tabletop miniatures are commonly 28–75 mm; display figures 75–150 mm; vehicles and large monsters can exceed 150 mm.

Fit and size

  • Rotate long weapons and tails toward the 211.68 mm X axis; the 118.37 mm Y depth is much narrower.
  • Supports, a raft and the lift path consume space beyond the model's bounding box. Keep a 5 mm margin around the plate.
  • Small miniatures fit easily; the challenge is support removal, drainage and preserving detail, not the 220 mm height.

Splitting plan

  1. 1

Split large figures at natural joints (waist, shoulders, base) and key the parts in CAD. This site does not generate connectors.

  2. 2

Hollow large bodies and add at least two drain holes; keep wall thickness around 1.0–1.5 mm and avoid trapped cups.

  3. 3

Print a small detail test or a single part before committing a full multipart figure to supports and a long cure.

Print settings and walls

  • Use 0.03–0.05 mm layers and the exposure settings for your specific resin; thicker layers trade detail for speed.
  • Use supports on hidden undersides, a suitable raft and a lift speed that does not tear fine details.
  • For hollow parts, use 1.0–1.5 mm walls, two or more drain holes and a slower lift; inspect the interior before printing.

Wall-thickness profile

The resin profile uses a practical 0.5 / 1.0 / 1.5 mm range for small-to-medium handled parts; verify supported walls and drainage in the slicer.

Material choices

Standard resin: high detail, suitable for display miniatures; more brittle after post-curing.
Tough/ABS-like resin: better for thin weapons, connectors and handled figures.
Water-washable resin: convenient but still needs proper washing, curing and disposal.

Use-case limits

  • A 118.37 mm Y depth is narrow; long figures may need rotation or splitting even when the printer is tall enough.
  • Supports can leave marks on fine surfaces, and removing them from thin parts can break the model.
  • The checker does not place supports, add drain holes or verify cup suction; inspect those in the slicer.
