Wall thickness/FDM
0.4 mm nozzle minimum wall thickness check
A 0.4 mm nozzle lays a line roughly 0.4–0.45 mm wide, so 0.8 mm is about two lines and 1.2 mm is three. This profile uses 0.8 / 1.2 / 2.0 mm as lower / recommended / structural screening targets, then measures the actual mesh locally.

Lower the threshold to inspect a stricter target, or raise it to screen only very thin walls. The profile verdict stays anchored to its published range.
Wall thickness reads model coordinates as millimetres. Scale glTF/GLB models exported in metres before checking.

- Assumptions
- 0.4 mm nozzle, approximately 0.4 mm extrusion width, 0.2 mm layers
- 2 / 3 / 5 perimeters for the lower / recommended / structural targets
- Rigid PLA or PETG; unsupported and load-bearing walls may need more

Profile-specific limits
- The ranges assume a rigid PLA/PETG-like material and a clean, calibrated profile; flexible materials, high layer heights or a worn nozzle can behave differently.
- Two perimeters is a geometric floor, not a strength guarantee. Thin walls can still fail at layer lines, under impact, or after repeated handling.
- The checker samples triangle centroids, so a tiny thin rib inside a large flat face can be missed. Use the distribution and the slicer preview together.
Where this profile fits
A 1.2–1.6 mm wall is a practical starting point for light covers. Add ribs or a thicker edge where fasteners or snap fits carry load.
For a load-bearing bracket, compare the structural target with the expected load direction. A wall that passes 1.2 mm can still flex if the part is mostly thin shell.
Raised text and thin fins often fall below the wall target. Decide whether they are decorative or functional before treating their area as a failure.
Wall-thickness tips
- Design walls as multiples of the extrusion width: 0.8, 1.2, 1.6 or 2.0 mm rather than an arbitrary 1.0 mm.
- Check the slicer preview for gap-fill lines; if a nominal 1.0 mm wall becomes a gap plus a thin line, change the CAD dimension.
- For watertight parts, use 3–4 perimeters and include the wall thickness in the print orientation review.
