Format conversion/Mesh ↔ mesh

OBJ to PLY converter (local)

Convert OBJ to binary little-endian PLY without sending the model anywhere. OBJ text is read in 4 MiB slices, polygon faces are fan-triangulated, and the PLY is assembled locally.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop an OBJ file.

  2. 2

The Worker streams v and f records and resolves positive or negative vertex indices.

  3. 3

Quads and polygons are fan-triangulated; groups are merged into one vertex and face list.

  4. 4

Download the binary PLY generated locally.

What the numbers mean

Units

OBJ is unitless. Coordinates are written to PLY without rescaling; confirm the intended scale before printing.

Attributes

OBJ vertex colors, texture coordinates, and normals are ignored. The PLY contains positions and triangular faces only.

Printing notes

  • PLY preserves shared vertex indices, which is useful for downstream mesh tools.
  • Groups and objects are merged into one PLY element; split parts before conversion if your slicer needs separate objects.
  • Check the converted bounds against the printer bed.
